What is Osechi?
The Osechi is a traditional Japanese dish prepared to celebrate the New Year. Each dish packed in a special box called a jubako, like a bento box, that is considered lucky for a rich harvest, prosperity for descendants and good health.
The 1899 Fresh Osechi offered at Hotel 1899 Tokyo is typical of a tea-themed hotel, and includes seven original tea osechi items using matcha, green tea, bancha (coarse tea), hojicha (roasted green tea) and more. A total of 18 items, each made with love and care.
Please enjoy the Japanese New Year with our osechi.

【Year-end and New Year】Enjoy Matcha Plan with matcha utensil set(room only)

A year-end and New Year limited plan includes 6 tea ceremony utensils for match that you can take it home

For those who want to enjoy making matcha but don’t know what to get, we have prepared a plan that includes a 6-piece tea ceremony utensil for matcha set from Honjien, a tea and tea utensil specialty store founded in 1931 (Showa 6), which has been well-received at our hotel, so that you can enjoy matcha with ease.
The matcha is Honjien’s original brand “Koto no Shiro”. It is authentic Uji matcha ground with a stone mill, with no additives or coloring, and has a low bitterness, making it easy to drink even for beginners.
For how to brew matcha, please refer to the leaflet that will be given to you with the set.
*The plan photo is an image.
*Only one 6-piece tea utensil set is available per a reservation. If you would like to add another one, please select from the option selections.

[Set of 6 tea ceremony utensils for match]
Matcha tea bowl*1
Medium-sized tea caddy for practice (without inner lid)*1
Tea whisk (several tips)*1
Tea scoop*1
Half-linen tea towel*1
Matcha tea 20g*1

Enjoy a casual tea ceremony experience
The tea ceremony is a calming ritual of making tea and serving it to guests. It’s not just about drinking tea, it’s a part of traditional Japanese culture where you can experience the spirit of hospitality, wabi-sabi, and other beautiful traditions.
This plan comes with a tea ceremony set that allows you to easily make tea yourself, even if you are new to the tea ceremony. You can take the tea ceremony set home, so you can enjoy the “relaxing time” with tea at home.
